Artist's Comments

This was a great experience, although it took longer than I'd like to admitt lol Mostly due to the hair. I can't believe how hard hair is to create. I felt like tearing out my own lol

it shouldn't have taken 30hrs + to create that. First you need to create more contrast in the face. Right now all of the features except for the bottom part of the nose appear to be on the same plane. In reality the eyes sit back further in the face then the nose etc.. Also the neck does not appear to be connected to the head in the way you have rendered it. There needs to be more cohesion between the two of them. And the shading on the left side of the neck creates a weird muscle looking effect. Good start. Just observe more of the subject and try to work more productive and consistently and you will be ok.

Its my hobby outside my fulltime job. It should take as long as it needs too friend. This is my FIRST digital portrait which meant I had to learn all the basics etc regarding digital painting through various tutorials. The next one I do may not take as long as I've already learned alot from what I've read and done before hand, albeit its not a race.

What you've commented on I'll be sure to pay attention too in future. I printed it out after submitting last night and noticed things that I could clean up on, but I'll keep it the way it is as its a testament to where i began for future reference. Thanks again dude.

Cheers man. Im very happy with the end result. Every moment of creating it was a new experience and I hope to submit more soon. The hair was tough, more than what i thought it'd be to create lol

Shes a hunny alright lol

Wow! She looks great! ^_^ You've captured the shine on her lips well. And the hair looks lovely for all your time =)

You painted me in pastels,
colors that don't tell of any boldness.
That's the way you'd love to see me;
so delicate, so weak, so little purpose.

wasn't a shot at you or your work. I've just found that the longer you agonize over a piece the less likely you are to have a positive result. If it takes you a long time to finish a piece, periodically stop and leave it for awhile and come back with a fresh eye and you will see things that you didn't before and your work will be better for it. I understand you are just starting out but nonetheless i'm trying to give a critique as I would any work. Its a great starting point and hopefully you will continue to improve. Just remember one thing, always push those values.. light and dark.. don't be afraid of contrast, it works in the long run. lateR
